Power shortag n Maharashta

Maharashtra is suffering from acute power shortage these days and to cope with the critical situation state government has cleared a proposal to buy 600 MW at an eye-popping rate of Rs.8.30 per unit. This will definitely result in upward revision of power tariff for poor consumers in the future. The most unfortunate part is that the goverment is ready to pay rate which is Seven times higher rate compared to production cost of NTPC.Why? State leaders became ready to pay higher rate perhaps in view of assembly election.Still ruling party has to face defeat in the election.Secondly government could have encouraged and cooperated NTPC in execution of their dream power projects .Even now production cost of power is not more than Rs.2 per unitin all NTPC power projects.Who bothers for loss to government exchequer?Government is not buying power at an exorbitant rate from their own pocket. When power tariff for consumers will be raised again they will play politics and promise to reduce the rate to earn votes.Lastly they will either provide subsidy to consumers from government treasury or will bcome defaulter in payment of its bill or repayment of its debts or lastly put pressure on central government to provide subsidy or write off the debts as West Bengal or Bihar or Jharkhand or UP state governments usually do to conceal their misdeeds. This shows the lack of vision in our political leaders. They could not and cannot visualise the alarming situation of power shortage a decade ago and political parties continued to play politics with Dabhol Power project initiated almost 15 years ago in Maharashtra and continue to play games of votes in other states .There are three power projects in Bihar and Jharkhand which are hanging or being delayed for execution only due to negligence of government officials who are indulged in corrupt practices and hence unable to acquire land required for installation and monitoring of power projects. Our leaders have to come out of caste politics , discard quota regime which provide them temporary vote bank .For longlasting love and affection of voters and stable government ,it is essential to provide basic amenities to voters and take care of them for the etire tenure of MPs/MLA's .Timely action on erring officials, removal of unworking ministers, and quickest punishment of corrupt and criminals who have entered into state Assemblies and Parliament
